A few months have passed since Moonshine’s celebrated SMS for Location, Vol.4. A few months during which the JUNO-nominated collective has traveled, spinned beats, explored, but more importantly connected with like-minded visionaries and artists globally. This is exactly what shines through on Moonshine’s latest SMS for Location, Vol. 5, a collection of 15 genre-busting tracks fusing batida, afrobeats, afro house, baile funk, amapiano, bass-heavy, and pure electronic sounds. From club scenes in Montreal, Lisboa, Paris, Brussels, Los Angeles, to Kinshasa’s undefeated dancefloors, the crew is building bridges, subverting the paradigm through their now legendary parties. On SMS for Location, Vol. 5, Moonshine is activating the past in the present to secure a future for inventive electronic production. It features artists hailing from all walks of life whose work transcends time, space and cultures. The album offers a glimpse of renowned international DJs and producers such as Polaris 2022 winner Pierre Kwenders (Canada/Congo), Nayela (Angola), Uproot Andy (New York), Love Lokombe (Congo), Vanyfox (France/Portugal) to name a few; then expands on long running influences of Afro-futurism and the plethora of diaspora sounds flourishing at the global scale.
